Claire Cleeves

Claire Cleeves

Owner, Personal Trainer and Studio Instructor

“The hub is a friendly, independent approachable gym with lots of character.”

After having completed a degree in Marketing and Drama Claire went on to build a career in Sales. Claire and Andy opened The Portishead Hub together in 2011, moving into the new premises in 2013. During that period Claire had a little girl, Ava in 2012 and a boy, Presley in 2013. Naturally motivated and motivational, Claire returned back to fitness and training and hasn’t looked back. In 2016 she expanded the brand and hub Chepstow was born. Now she manages both gyms and plans to extend the business again in the future. Claire is constantly looking at ways to expand her knowledge and alongside the business is passionate about The Hub Body Transformation courses designed for women.

It almost goes without saying (if you’ve read the above!) that Claire is hard-working and ambitious and dotes on her ‘two little babies’. Having done it herself she also loves helping people get back into fitness, tries to help local charities as much as she can and quite simply “loves the environment of the gym.” Running your own business is challenging, it can be hard to fit everything in and you can’t always please everyone but at the hub we definitely try. Claire credits the talented team that works for her to ensure that the hub is a friendly, independent and approachable gym with lots of character.

Rakan Sabbah

Rakan Sabbah

Personal Trainer and Studio Instructor

“The hub is the best place to get fit, to keep fit and to get fitter!”

Rakan was born in England but left at a very young age with family to live in Jordan, returning to England in 2013 to follow his dream of becoming the best that he could be in delivering his expertise in the sports and fitness industries to his clients. As befits a hub instructor, Rakan has always enjoyed most types of sports and loves to be challenged in everything. He will never say no to trying something new and also possesses that never give up mentality, a trait he likes to see in the people he trains with.
On his return to England Rakan asked locally where the best gym was and the answer was the hub-the rest, as they say, is history. Now Rakan does a bit of sales when the need arises but his main role is as an instructor/pt and he will be taking crossfit sessions once they start. Rakan gets immense job satisfaction, especially “seeing people working hard trying to make a change in their lives in and out of the gym.” He also enjoys working with all the hub staff and is motivated by Andy Cleeves work ethic-“what he has achieved just makes me want to try my best to be as good as him.”

With this in mind, Rakan gets frustrated when people that can do it just give up too easily; especially those that really have the potential but end up taking the wrong path. Knowing this, Rakan cannot be more enthusiastic about the hub’s benefits, stating that the hub is “the best place to be to keep fit, to get fit and to get fitter. The hub offers a lot from classes to PT, to bootcamps, whilst also always looking to do something new and exciting for their members and always trying to motivate. The hub offers help to anyone because we like seeing people doing better than they expected because that’s what the hub offers.

Linda Probert

Linda Probert

Portishead General Manager

I first joined the hub to take part in the Body Transformation Bootcamp in April 2014 and found a new love for fitness and training. Following the course I continued going to many studio sessions a week loving the variety of classes on offer. Since October 2016 I also joined CrossFit Portishead and have loved learning more new training ideas and joining the community.

Later in 2014 the opportunity came up to work at the hub with the administration department, I jumped at the chance and have since taken on more and more responsibilities over time to become Portishead General Manager.

It is great to work and train with such a friendly highly motivated team in a job that I also get to meet and assist such a large and wide variety of clients.

Sarah Matyjasik

Sarah Matyjasik

Personal Trainer - Portishead & Chepstow

Sarah has been weight training for many years and has always loved being fit and strong. After a ‘decide to decide’ moment in January 2015 Sarah realised it was time to shift and take her fitness to a new level. Following the FIT programme with Forever due to loving the products and working with them for over 10 years Sarah achieved great results and was inspired to set some new ‘big fitness goals’ one of which was to get on stage and compete. In September 2015 Sarah stepped on stage for the very first time, finding it scary but also a lot of fun she qualified for a place in the British PCA finals the following year, she has since competed again in 2016 in two more shows and received invites to the British PCA and NABBA Novice finals.

Sarah has now completed her formal training in fitness to Level 3 in Personal Training to underpin all the experience she has gained over the years to put to good use helping clients achieve their health & fitness goals. Having a real passion for nutrition Sarah believes this is a huge part of success in long term body fat loss and muscle or lean tissue gains.

Currently studying for an Advanced Diploma in Nutrition & Weight management, Sports Nutrition, Children’s Nutrition & Obesity, Pre & Post Natal Nutrition and Behavioural Change Management Sarah believes this will allow her to provide even more specific programmes for her clients to enable them to make even greater lifestyle changes.

Kyla Probert

Kyla Probert

Gym Assistant

I joined the hub as a member in January 2015 and have enjoyed training with friends and having Personal Training sessions with Jeff Nutt ever since, the hub is a very welcoming place and the team made me feel at ease instantly.

In September Claire gave me the opportunity to assist with the new CrossFit Kids sessions and shortly after the chance to also become a Gym Assistant on Saturday morning shifts. This has been my first part-time job and has given me lots of confidence with working within a great team and also meeting and assisting hub members.

I am currently studying for my A Levels at Gordano School and find working at the hub alongside this has become a perfect combination. I love training with members of the hub team and always look forward to CrossFit Kids sessions every week, helping them start their fitness journeys is very rewarding.

Aimee Schools

Aimee Schools

Chepstow Manager

I joined the hub as a Gym Assistant in August 2015 after previously being a member since June 2014. As the gym became my favourite hobby outside of studying my A levels at Gordano School, I decided I wanted to join the hub team as everyone was always so welcoming and I appreciated the community environment. I am now Manager of the new Chepstow premises. I wasn’t always interested in fitness from a gym aspect until I joined the hub and started building relationships with other members and everyone who worked at the gym; they all motivated me, made me realise what my goals were and started helping me to achieve them.

In November 2015 Claire gave me the opportunity to start teaching Total Ballet Barre on a Monday evening. Ballet had been my favourite hobby when I was younger and I took part in many performances from the age of 4, so it was really nice to be given this responsibility. At first, I was nervous but everyone was so supportive, including the various people who attend the class. I love knowing that I’m helping people towards their goals, as well as presenting them with different challenges each week. Teaching total barre has increased my confidence, as well as my love for fitness and the hub. It makes Mondays a lot better!

James Allen

James Allen

Personal Trainer & Gym Assistant - Chepstow & Portishead

James originally discovered his interest for fitness from competing as an amateur boxer from a young age, then at the age of 16 realised his passion was weight lifting. This h progressed onto focusing on body building and training for aesthetics. He continues to use functional training in his workouts to increase strength and performance.

‘I am highly motivated to help others to achieve their personal goals, as this gives me just as much satisfaction as achieving my own.’

In June 2016 James competed in his first body building show and came 3rd place at UKDFBA USN classic in the teen category. From doing this he learnt a lot about diet and nutrition, as well as various ways of training to achieve the high standard of conditioning. ‘This has inspired me to use my knowledge to help clients accomplish their goals; whether they are looking to lose body fat, gain muscle or improve general fitness. I believe it is important to tailor fitness regimes to suit individuals as everybody wants different results.’

Mollie Evans

Mollie Evans

Gym Assistant & Personal Trainer - Portishead

Mollie has always been active whether it was gymnastics, dance or hockey but she really found her love of the gym in her late teens.

After graduating drama school in London, Mollie had the opportunity to move to Los Angeles and this is where her passion for health and fitness grew even more. Living minutes from the famous Venice Beach, Mollie tried all the weird and wonderful fitness trends over there and can say with a smile that many of them, once in a lifetime is plenty. But having said that it really is the heart of health and fitness and she returned with a greatly expanded knowledge and understanding (and love of green juice). The day after Mollie returned she started her Level 2 and 3 Personal Training qualification as well as spin instructing and days later was delighted to be able to join the Hub Team.

Mollie is very excited to help and inspire others to get to them to their goals, making dreams a reality (a little bit of LA cheese for you there). But in all seriousness Mollie understands how confusing it can be ‘get fit’ or ‘tone up’ with all the mixed messages out there and fad diets and she is extremely passionate to help every individual find and importantly, understand what will work for their bodies.

Following a rethink about my career I found a new passion for weight training and fitness in general and decided to go to college and train to be a Fitness Instructor. I am now hoping to progress on to become a Level 3 Personal Trainer at the Hub

I have always wanted to be involved in the Fitness Industry and find that helping people reach their goals and achieving things they didn’t see possible is very rewarding. Ben Hicken

Ben Hicken

Gym Assistant - Portishead

I hadn’t always been very active when I was young, I had tried many different sports and physical activities growing up but nothing that I was enthusiastic enough to stick with. That was until a friend of mine introduced me to the gym while at university. After seeing some great positive results in myself both physically and mentally as well as the many close friendships I had made at the gym I knew it had me hooked for life and it quickly became my favourite thing to do outside of my artwork.

After university I went travelling in America and I discovered Calisthenics which has become my main focus in the gym as I love the variety of challenging things I can do with my own body and its focus on movement and flexibility.

I had been coming to the hub for years before I began working here and it as always been my favourite gym to go to as it brings together many different aspects of physical activity under one roof to form a great community of people passionate about fitness.

Brandon Murphy

Brandon Murphy

Apprentice - Chepstow

I have always had an interest in Sport and Athletics whether it be Football to MMA ever since I was very young.I have recently focused my training on Weight Lifting and Body Building, it is a very big passion of mine and I hope to one day become a personal trainer and compete in a Physique Modelling competition.

If I set my mind to something I will not stop until I achieve it and I believe everyone should try to have this sort of mindset and not give up so easy, it’s all about determination and resilience.

I would one day like to help other people achieve their goals just like I love achieving my own.

Natalie Lewis

Natalie Lewis

Gym Assistant - Chepstow

Bristolian living over the bridge! I have been training for the past 5 years and competing on the UK and International stages including The Arnolds for the past 3 years.

My Passion for the gym started when I went into a local gym to try to Tone up! I quickly realised that I love everything about weight training and that you can transform yourself not only physically but also mentally. I love the structure and discipline the gym gives me.

The gym is a great passion of mine and I love that I have found something I can corporate into my daily routine to keep me feeling healthy and fit.
For now, my goal is to carry on competing as much as I can and to hopefully one day make it onto that Olympia Stage!
